Most people seem to think it's bad (incl. me) but would be interested in a contrarian take from someone who thinks it's good

There are two short books “The agony of Eros” and “The transparency society” that I really recommend you. 

In some parts the author (Byung Chul-han) talks about the negative parts of online dating or knowing each other online.

(I’m with you on this hehe so idk if it counts)

Agreed, but still a fresh summer reading, with some good points and reflections.

It can get repetitive too.

Both books are nice but quite shallow-minded. 
In my opinion, Byung Chul-han boks  are becoming less and less interesting since "Non-things". I think he condenses so much and his examples are so watered down that sometimes it feels like I'm reading Tyler Durden's short quotes on coffee sugar sacks.
