The iconic power of this image, taken by Associated Press photographer Evan Vucci, of the recent attack on Trump cannot be achieved by 1,000 marketing campaigns.

With his face bloodied, former President Trump raises his fist in the air as if challenging the sniper for missing his target.

This image reminds me of another image that has enormous iconographic power in the collective American imagination, the Marine Corps monument in Washington, the center of power of the U.S. federal government.

That iconic image, taken by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal, shows six Marines raising the American flag on the Japanese islands of Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945, signifying the end of one of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific against Japan during World War II.

Because of the framing, it appears that the U.S. flag is held by Trump's fist and his arm acts as a flagpole.  With a female bodyguard on the right and a male bodyguard on his left, all members of the security service protect the former president.
