In defense of these minimalist san-serif typefaces, they were definitely influenced by the rise of mobile-first mass consumer behavior imo

Logotypes were optimized for scalability, adaptability, & readability on various devices while brands placed more emphasis on differentiating themselves through logos used on app icons + various marketing material, product development, and customer + user experience

But that being said, over-optimization became its own design trend, which unfortunately led to most logotypes looking indistinguishable from one another. I expect this pendulum to recalibrate itself and swing back towards the other side while keeping mobile-first consumers in mind
