Antananarivo is the capital of Madagascar and the administrative center of the province of the same name. The city is located in the central part of the island of Madagascar, on the High Plateau, at an altitude of 1240-1470 meters above sea level. The population, according to 2021 data, is 2,610,018 people. It is a railway and automobile junction, connected by railroad with the eastern coast (the city of Tuamasinoi), with the region of Lake Alautra (the city of Ambatundrazaka) and with the city of Antsirabe. Highways connect the capital with all provinces. Iwatu International Airport is located in Antananarivo.
