Adıyaman(Turkish: Adıyaman, Kurdish: Semsûr) is a city in southeastern Turkey, the capital of Adıyaman ila. It is one of the fastest growing Turkish cities. Until 1926, the city had the Arabic name Hisn-i Mansur (Mansur's Fortress), after the fortress on the hill around which the city was built. But the Turks had difficulty pronouncing this name, so they called it Adı-Yaman (literally “with a bad name”) among themselves, and in 1926 this nickname became the official name of the city.
