Diyarbakir is a city and district in southeastern Turkey, on the Tigris River. It is the administrative center of Diyarbakir Ila (province). It is the unofficial capital of Northern Kurdistan and Kurdistan as a whole. Historical capital of Greater Armenia, built by Tigran II, on the site of ancient Amida, as his own residence.
