Quito or San Francisco de Quito is the capital, as well as the political, economic and cultural center of Ecuador, named after the name of the ancient Quito Indian tribe. The second most populous city in Ecuador (after Guayaquil). In 1978, Quito and Krakow became the first cities to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.
