Kinshasa is the capital and largest city of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is located on the left bank of the Congo River, opposite the city of Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of the Congo. Although the population of the urban agglomeration in 2021 is 14,740,000, 60% of its territory is sparsely populated rural areas, which, however, fall within the administrative boundaries. Densely populated urban areas occupy only a small part of the territory in the west of the province.
