The cryptonomicon by N. Stephenson 
All right this is not an easy book to read,  it’s verrry long and quite complex but so so worth it. The book follows two timelines, one during WWII and one in the “present”, and weaves themes of cryptography, war, startups and money. Ultimately the theme is: what does wealth means? 
A rewarding - though demanding - read, like most things of value.

Ah, it’s the only one I’ve read. What else do you recommend from him?

my favorite is still snowcrash, but it’s quite different than cryptonomicon. if you really like long dense reads anathem also is up there!
