2 possible scenarios for LLMs in the context of programming: - in ~10 years all programming is done by LLMs (making it a bad career path) - LLMs that write full applications is where self-driving was 12y ago. Software has the interesting property that the more of it that exists the more we need. My take: LLMs will write most code, similar to how compilers took over from writing assembly by hand, and this increases the need for SWEs.

But isn't "programming" just a by-product of a particular way of creative thinking. (and hard-won, at that) Relatedly, having an LLM write an essay for you robs you of what writing the essay can most importantly be for...as a tool for helping you think clearly.
