I searched the kitchen high and low,
Through cupboards, drawers, and a table’s glow.
The fridge, the pantry, all in vain,
Where could that last cookie remain?
I peeked behind the cereal box,
Checked under the socks and old shoebox.
The cookie jar stood ever still,
But no crumbs spilled—such a thrill!
Then suddenly, there came a sound,
A crinkle, a rustle, all around!
I turned to find with eyes wide,
The cookie was in my sister’s stride!
She grinned and said, "You snooze, you lose!"
And popped the cookie—chose her muse.
I sighed, "Fair play, but don’t you see?
Next time, I’ll grab the last one... and flee!" 0 reply
