actually I‘d also like to know what Twitter participation rates are. My anecdotal idea is that quasi nobody is very online in Europa compared to US. My feeling is in Europa more ppl are on LinkedIn than on Twitter and vice versa in US. Can anyone back this up lol?

Sure, because Twitter is English based, if you don't know English you are cut out from 95% of the contents. In Europe, even in the scenario in which you know English your best friend doesn't so you don't have friend to follow or interact with there.
