Brian Massumi on recognizing the virtual - matter’s implicate - against or beyond Plato. For Plato it (the substantive, generative thing behind matter) is eternal stasis, for Deleuze it’s an infinite regress into motion, change and excessiveness. That’s what gives it its ghost quality - not its self-similarity over time but its changefulness and too-muchness. Ultimately, matter’s tacit is a ghostly agency, another daemon that we have to relate with and conjure if we want the power of 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴.
