One point worth acknowledging: after killing tens of millions under Mao, the CCP under Deng Xiaoping lifted a billion plus people out of abject poverty. That’s the best counter I can come up with.

USA has killed who knows how many innocent people. War is its default stance since 1941. Democracy’s saving grace despite all of its many faults is the chance to replace people in power without violence. That’s it. No guarantee of better use of power, just peaceful transfer.
