Australian authorities will euthanize 90 surviving killer whales that washed up on a Tasmanian beach. In total, 157 animals washed ashore. Many hours had already passed, which greatly reduced their chances of survival. Some whales dug so deep into the sand that their bodies, once out of the water, began to collapse under their own weight. Due to the surf, it is too difficult and life-threatening for rescuers to remove killer whales weighing from 500 kg to 3 tons and return them to the ocean. Therefore, it was decided to euthanize, as the animals continue to suffer. Given their size, this will be done with firearms.
