I've met so many bonafide legends from these subcultures quietly hanging out, basking in the scene. 

The same DIY spirit, the same 'fuck around and find out' energy, the same creative chaos. 

History doesn't repeat, but it sure does rhyme.

The difference being that the subcultures you listed were largely characterized by a pro-solidarity ethos and antipathy towards commercialization, whereas “on-chain culture,” broadly speaking, is characterized by all-consuming, nihilistic venal greed and unapologetic, self-interested, elitist value extraction
