Academic inflation vs artificial intelligence, or AI vs AI: a thread. 🧵

Over my 25-year career, I have witnessed and observed the phenomenon of academic inflation, which I define as the value of a degree only ever decreasing from the moment it is conferred.

There are three main mechanisms how this happens. 1/8

1. The increasing number of people obtaining degrees has led to a saturation of the job market with qualified candidates, making it more difficult for individuals to stand out with just their academic credentials.

2. The rapid advancement of technology, specifically artificial intelligence, has disrupted traditional job roles and required workers to continuously upskill and adapt to remain competitive in the workforce.

3. As AI becomes more sophisticated and capable of handling complex tasks, the value of certain academic qualifications may diminish as companies prioritize technical skills and practical experience over theoretical knowledge.

In this evolving landscape, individuals must be proactive in acquiring a diverse skill set, including both academic knowledge and practical skills, to stay ahead of the curve and thrive in a competitive job market
