Self-custody. Decentralization. Immutability. Each requires the former. This is the way.

Do you think full self-custody will be mass adopted or a quasi-self custody solution?

I don't think it makes sense for everyone to self-custody everything all the time. What's important is the easy ability to self-custody when one wishes, and to know how and why to move between those modes.

Exactly. This is the path we are building towards. Vast majority at onboarding want no friction and are ok with leaving custody to others. But as time goes on and value is derived users MUST have the option to self-custody and take ownership elsewhere.
