If you can, go to Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite. The Valley is very belt up at this point, and if you’re looking to camp, there’s likely no room unless you come far in advance. The Meadows is breathtaking in an Alps kind of way, and much quieter. Worth stopping in the Valley just to see El Capitan and then move on. I’ve also been to Sequoia but it was so long ago I don’t remember what’s there.

One thing to warn you about though is the temperature difference. It’s at least 20 degrees difference between the Valley Floor and Tuolumne. So come prepared with layers. They only open the pass in summer because most roads stay blocked due to the cold.

Oh I’m sure, although I’ve never stayed overnight. We just did a day trip from a nearby town. It does take longer to get up to the highlands but well worth it. Here’s a picture from one of the amazing lakes.
