I think you’re underestimating how much status it confers Even if you view it as a cosmetic, it’s the perception of being a legit user vs a “default skin” stuff like that matters for first impressions, not to mention the extra features you get for being verified

How much status it did confer. Past tense. When I saw a verified mark I knew there was a substantial reason. Now I’ll know it’s because they paid $20. The differentiator is now gone.
