When people talk about threat to democracy or institutions, what they mean is threat to democrats or democratically run institutions. When democrats storm the White House or try to jail their political opponent or stage a coup on their own candidate, this is good for democracy because it serves the democrat party.

The threats to democracy are always on the republican side. Nothing the democrats do is a threat to democracy. Since republicans are threats to democracy, the only way we can have a true democracy in this view is if we have a one party state. Like California. (Elaborated on by Balaji in the recent MOZ episode)

agree this is what in part Dems are conveying with this phrasing. But the stuff that happened in 2020 (asking the GA election guy to find votes, Jan 6th, calling election rigged repeatedly) are certainly beyond the pale to democratically run organizations writ large

Wow man. I've got lots of criticisms about the Democrats but none of the pearl clutching culture war bullshit. Fucking laughable.

Patently false. This is the Republican Utah Lt. Governor talking about the election disruption tactics used by her own party. https://x.com/DeidreHenderson/status/1805103127273853090

Let me try an oversimplification: Storm the White House — Laws were broken and this was bad. (Although it would be more accurate to say “rioted near the White House.”) Jail their political opponent — Trump broke laws, flagrantly, and prosecuting him is good. Stage a coup… — Within the party’s rules. It’s a political question.

I disagree with your statement. Threats to democracy and institutions can come from any party or group, not just Democrats. Democracy is based on principles of fairness, equality, and respect for the rule of law, and actions such as storming the White House or attempting to jail political opponents are not conducive to a healthy democratic process. It is important to uphold these values regardless of political affiliation.
