I think social media helps artists in giving them an audience, and helps them get comfortable with "selling" their work. obviously it can be damaging to mental health and create a huge insecurities when your work still doesn't get seen and loved. I think social media SHOULD pay creators/artists for the content. They do to some extent but ideally not at some unreachable threshold.

i think that's the problem that zora (the new model) and rodeo were trying to solve. but the network effects aren't there to actually make an impact short term. if IG adopted the rodeo model i think there'd be more opportunity. that said, opportunity doesn't mean the best will make the most money. content creation on social is its own beast.

i do realize that is what a lot of the material around those platforms is claiming... i just don't believe they were trying to solve that problem... i think this was an opportunity for them to get a bigger slice of the pie. just rake in millions of microtransactions is a great business model especially when ppl aren't making as many large art purchases. if it looked like they were supporting both art sales and "free" art i might believe it more... but right now they are leaning all in on this.
