Consistently sad to hear seed founders paying $200K+ on extremely expensive lawyers for starter projects eg token warrants, t&cs etc. If you raised $2M on $20M and spend $200K+ on legal docs, you’ve taken 10% more dilution and given away a founding engineer’s salary/equity in exchange for legal prestige.

ps good lawyers are wonderful and some startups really need them early on. But most don’t and the top-tier Valley ones often extract way more value from early stage cos than is needed.

yep lots of good lawyers that are not in big law. often they are also more sensitive to billings as well. big law gets used to a certain bloat because big corps rarely question their billings

It all depends what is needed. If it’s the general docs can be done efficiently. Big thing that founders need to remember that they also need to be organized and efficient when dealing with/speaking with the lawyers. Also, it’s cheaper to do it right the first time. Normally 60k-85k for Seed round.
