My friend I'm staying with lives in this horrific basement apartment. He's had it for years, at first sharing it with roommates and then taking it over for himself. It's old and run down yes, but it's also serviceable, dirt cheap and in an absolutely prime location. And do you think he's picky? You saw his fridge. 

Given the fact that this apartment is mildly nightmarish, there are occasionally mice. Maybe one every quarter, he tells me. I saw one today and set out to kill it. I bought mousetraps and bait. 

The kill mission was a resounding success; however it had nothing to do with the traps. It was because I walked into the other room and stepped on it, squashing it like one of those viral hydraulic press videos with my foot. 

I did not act brave or with any chill when this happened, by the way. I screamed bloody murder and made my friend clean up the carcass. From what little I saw, I believe there were entrails.

Everyone I know that has lived in a ground floor / basement level apartment always has some kind of horror story, but this one is especially terrible, I’m sorry 😭
