Biggest miss from commentators (including Dalio) are on how we’ll ramp up domestic production to back up these tariffs IMO. In cases where trade partners don’t ease up on their side and we don’t settle into a more favorable equilibrium, we’ll need to pick up production rate + quality of goods we’ve historically outsourced. We’re prob ok on basic agriculture needs and can maybe compete on autos & electronics over time, but have big holes in textiles, pharma, rare earth minerals (hence push on Ukraine deal). If we can’t fill these holes domestically and trade war escalates we’re in a world of pain.
