Well, I finally framed a piece of my work!
๐ ๐ฅณ ๐
I made a float mount, which was a learning experience in figuring out how to use foam board, archival hinging tape, build the support walls to keep the glass away from the art, and securing the backing.
But what really took the most time was refurbishing the frame. Things kept not working out like I had planned, initially wanting to use wax-based gold leafing paint on the frame that I had sanded down and prepped.
But it didn't work, so I had to use primer and gold spray paint. Some dents and knicks still showed though even though I had worked to patch them. So after literally dreaming about how to fix things, I created a moirรฉ patterned surface with the gold leafing wax and then had to seal that with several layers of clear coat. I like how it turned out, but it took a week of effort to get there. That's a lot of work, not to mention more costs than I anticipated getting supplies.
I made two frames and will finish assembling the other tomorrow. 7 replies
