/amp is now migrated from Vercel to self-hosted Coolify on Hetzner It's a decently big app with 0.2m records in a 5GB postgres db and a bunch of scheduled workflows orchestrated with cron. I used to pay roughly $50-60/mo for all of the data/compute on Vercel. Rolled a new Hetzner 8-core/16GB AMD instance in us-east ($30/mo). It hosts the database + app on the same machine. Vercel cron replaced with GitHub actions (which support cron-type scheduling!). Should eat only about 10% of the instance's resources 🚀 Growing more and more bullish on self-hosting.

How did the v1 cost so much to host? Vercel at 20 per month for pro plan. -!: then db another 30? What were you using for db?

postgres on vercel - insanely expensive beyond first 100 compute hours ($1/hr)

Ah. Much better options out there. Would look at neon next time. May have cost you 0. Of all the options available Vercel Postgres probably the last I’d pick.

Actually I think they even use neon under the hood right? So may as well use them direct.

Ah right. Neon changed their plans a few months ago. So similar to Vercel is 20+ per month unless you’re using free tier of each. Neon branching is super cool. And I just prefer someone else looking after my db anyway. But understand one would want to save costs with coolify.

Ah maybe the pricing at your level is the same on neon direct or Vercel. I still go direct. But pricing for it may be the same. But neon does have better free tier than Vercel supposedly.
