Honestly I think the whole gated channel system is broken to the point that I’m not going to ask for entries.

Hoping they undo the gating.

Frustrations with channels: there’s no easy way to request entry.
You said channel admins don’t want to spend time approving people.
But then how does a channel ever expand? That you have to dm a channel admin? But if they don’t have energy to add then how’s that help?

It feels like a cartel / censorship.

If people want private groups create them in private chat. No reason for that to appear on everyone’s feed or even appear anywhere on the app unless the user can write to the channel.

Didn’t say how it could be better:

Let anyone post in a channel as it was before.

Reddit model where you have access unless you’re banned.

A bit puzzled by the people who continue to insist that open channels without any gating or spam filtering would work just fine.

When I mention there would be a lot of spam, they tell me I'm wrong or they would manually weed it out.

We tried that for the last year and it didn't work. Very few channel owners / moderators wanted to do the drudgery of cleaning up spammy casts. It's not fun or rewarding. And that's logical on their end!

The reason web2 doesn't have this problem:

1. The successful companies like Meta or YouTube have *10s of thousands* of ops people moderating the platform; they also have massive data sets and AI models to help

2. They are centralized. They can *delete* spammy accounts and there's no recourse.

3. X / Twitter got rid of most of their ops people, so you see *a lot* more spam on there. Additionally, #hashtags on Twitter have been spammy for 10 years. Just look at the following link:
