Do you know that when you dream you KNOW you are dreaming, but when you wake up you forget that you knew that you were dreaming.

That's fair. I always thought of dreams like screensavers (which I also don't know why we have and just assumed whatever the answer is applies to my brain. 🤣 )

i wonder why we even have them in the first place. 
People who have a dream journal; getting up and jotting down whatever they remember tend to get better at retaining them tho

"We" meaning who? I mean, I don't remember my dreams, but that's easy: I smoke joints, and THC does not help you get to the REM phase, which is when we memorize our dreams.
