It’s raining in Kyoto today so I again have an entire temple to myself. Normally the tea ceremony is done for a group, but no one else is here so I got a private showing. Jōshō-ji is famous for tea and a very famous geisha Yoshino Tayu is buried here. She donated the vermillion gate that welcomes you to the temple. The group tea room is very large but there are two other tea rooms on the grounds. They are normally closed but I was invited to view them as long as I took only memories. The tea mistress speaks no English but her assistant is quite fluent and gave me an amazing tour. Rainy days can be wonderful.

Tokyo may only have a 400-year history, so I’m a bit envious of the experience of enjoying matcha surrounded by the deep historical atmosphere of Kyoto. It must be such a special moment.

Yes. I can feel the history in each step I take. And each crack I step on and stone I almost trip over :)
