Likewise. I've always found it objectionable that forum moderators, creative people, open source devs, etc., are forced into "day jobs" out of lack of other alternatives.

One reason the "day job" phenomenon is problematic is that within this ecosystem, creators also have to invest time to build a profile / work the algorithms and those who don't suffer from reduced exposure. Learning about evolving protocols and platforms and engaging in the social ecosystems - minting, dropping, tipping, reading and responding could be it's own "part-time job" - the administrative/social side of the creative coin. That's why I believe authors (and other creators) need to be paid for the content they create (including, ideally, casts and conversations like these) One big reason I write in Web3 and advocate the use of blockchain protocols is that crypto enables the possibility of micropayments across borders and timezones - which could open great opportunities for folks like @dummie.eth in regions like West Africa, Oceania, etc. Just my 6 $DEGEN 😁

weirdly, I’m between “day jobs” right now (just ask Danica) so I’ve gone hard on the farcaster ecosystem as a way to, frankly, get paid. it absolutely is a full time job in a way, I’m a social media manager at myself. real intern hours job searching is also a full time job. maybe I do two jobs after all

I do like the fact that even without going hard or being badged, it's possible to accrue a 10,000+ $DEGEN in a month just by producing a midicum of useful content and engaginge with others who are doing the same - that isn't a lot by the standards of say, Australia, but it is worth a lot more in many other economies... That said, if I looked at my "hourly rate" of return, it's pretty low - and (sadly?) the ROI is much better for simple casts and replies (in my experience) than for writing/publishing long-form pieces on @paragraph or t2...

I'm not sure how Paragraph will fare for fiction but I can see how it might work for various non-fiction niches. I told Danica I will get my thoughts together and, guess what, publish them on Paragraph. The "we are so early" chant may be exactly where things stand for writers at the moment.

Good points, all. My experience is similar with long-form @paragraph essays vs. shorter writings. This very thread is an example: the /zora screenshot version got much more attention than the longer Paragraph essay, and more mints too. It also started a convo in the replies, which gives it an algo boost in the feed so more people see it... etc. Few people (aside from us writers?) bother to click on links to read long-form work anymore. If I'm honest that makes me sad. I do appreciate the additional mints on /zora though. I currently have about 75 mints in total for the Slowcore HQ essay collection on Zora, and about 25 on Paragraph. Don't even get me started on ROI. I can't even bring myself to calculate it. It'll just make me even sadder.
