We've seen Google Search getting worse, the bad AI summaries, Gemini. "Google Meet (original)". But today I saw something new. Something very old. Classic Y2K-era spam is making thru the gmail filters. From my inbox just now--what a throwback π

On that first point - it's genuinely been wild to watch Google slowly become more irrelevant over a full decade.. and then suddenly just become utterly irrelevant overnight. Crazy how hard they dropped the ball. gmail, youtube, android - and then that's that. Nothing of value ever again.

They're still absolutely gigantic, but now in the sense of a glacier. They move slowly/not at all, but they'll likely be around forever (climate change notwithstanding etc) There's no innovation or drive there anymore. It's just another enterprise company to drop high wage packs on cs grads looking for the cozy life.
