It means “a general purpose computer”!

One way of simplifying the idea in terms of technical equivalency is that I would like this app to spin off a Linux VM for each discrete object that is photographed and isolated with Dia.

I don’t literally want to do this, because it would be insanely expensive, but I want to get close to what this equivalency implies. 

If every discrete object in the world was like a link or pointer to a tract of general purpose compute, I think it would be pretty interesting in terms of how people could build “on” a system like this
