I moved to Bay Area 3 months ago and I often hang with Japanese community here. I get compliments on the fact that I speak Japanese and that makes me really happy that I'm still able to practice it. This reminded me that last year I wrote about how I learned Japanese and wanted to bring it back again.

What I’ve heard about learning Japanese is that it’s easy at the start but gets difficult later; which is about the reverse situation compared with Chinese. Has it been your experience?

In my experience, the difficulty stays almost the same. But the further u go, the more kanji (Chinese characters) is introduced, which I think is a bit more difficult for most. Tho if u already know Chinese, the latter parts of Japanese should actually be easy for u

If we focus only on kanjis and writing is a bit hard to learn and remember those. With todays keyboard on phone or laptop if you know the word how is pronounced it shows it directly. I’m at that point that I understand many kanjis but I can’t read them, just too much work lol. So for me the most important skills are develop listening and vocabulary
