View counts only reliably work when everything’s in a centralized database.

One interesting thing that Lens has is the collect feature. It can work like that counter. I like it a lot because all the possibilities that brings to creators directly in their social media. Have you considered anything like that for Farcaster?

Eventual consistency is fine no? Harder, but some reported view count * reputation score is an option maybe? I’m guessing you already need some form of “do we trust this peer”.

view counts are important for sure, though. maybe not for all types of content, but if you're trying to sell something, its important to know which platforms actually give you distribution :) If you put up a vid on YT vs TikTok, the difference is insane. The FC client that gives the best distribution wins

i agree, and I also see view counts as another impermanent tactic in Elon’s battle to tear down Twitter in order to rebuild it. like people, companies often need a near-death experience before they can really change. perhaps he’s laying bare all of its weaknesses (like 1% engagement levels) to accelerate the proc

No matter how it’s done - it’s one thing to show it. Being transparent about how it’s counted in the first place would be of interest as well. Btw. didn’t Elon promise to open source Twitter?

How would you go about verifying the accuracy of view counts/impressions in a centralized database? Isn’t one of the biggest issues on the internet today that views, likes, upvotes, plays etc… are highly manipulated?
