having a tough time with an investor who doesn’t want to invest through a SAFE. We can’t really afford (we’ve had 1 small angel cheque) to do a priced round, they don’t want to invest unless we do. should we walk away?

Depends on how existential the funding from that one investor is to your company. In 2023, for an early stage company and investor not wanting to do a SAFE is a flag imo

yeah, they also want a board seat. I think I know the answer but just haven’t been able to admit it. maybe better to walk away even if it is existential.
