having a tough time with an investor who doesn’t want to invest through a SAFE. 

We can’t really afford (we’ve had 1 small angel cheque) to do a priced round, they don’t want to invest unless we do.

should we walk away?

yeah, they also want a board seat. I think I know the answer but just haven’t been able to admit it. maybe better to walk away even if it is existential.

Depends on how existential the funding from that one investor is to your company.

In 2023, for an early stage company and investor not wanting to do a SAFE is a flag imo

This week I kept saying, “ah so this is why YC created the SAFE!”

Their reason is that they want to be a shareholder now at a fixed valuation.

did they give a reason why? I'm unexperienced in this regard, but it seems YCombinator already championed this as a SAFE path, pun intended
