this bot-liking scandal has me wondering, once again, whether we've got this whole social media thing wrong i really liked farcaster 6+ months ago. the scenius was palpable. not that i'm against letting new people in, but now it feels more like we're back to the standard social media - strangers one-upping themselves

It's a handful of accounts? Mute them and it's not an issue. :)

Plenty of people still treating it like a group chat!

My 2 cents: Since there are more users, it is harder for active users to see your casts (therefore, less reactions/replies). In the past, it was way easier to reach active users. I still see great conversations happening, but I usually have to find them, instead of those convos showing up (through trending/searches)

That's why casting in channels is powerful. People can go to a place to find a specific group of people. Will be easier to create quirky / non-topic-based channels once they are permissionless.

i think a lot of us enjoyed the specific community, regardless of the content.

But that community is still here! Whether it's a channel or a new, early-user only client (or filtering mode for a client like @super), totally possible, esp. since the network is 100% permissionless.

for sure, i use @super and perhaps it will get some of us where we prefer to be, but i still wonder if the general concept of an open access social media is flawed for humans psychologically and effectively (e.g. adding value to society)

I'd argue that open access social media is far closer to how things work in the real world. :)

? humans throughout history have operated daily in much smaller, physically closer communities. i think it is well understood that modern social media is abnormal for human society and psychology. i'm not saying we should not have it at all, but it is not the norm, and certainly not aligned with our social evolution.
