Looks like all 3 bills are specific to digitally altered or AI created deceptive content. The devil is certainly in the details, but in general it seems we should prohibit deepfakes of politicians saying/doing thing imo https://www.gov.ca.gov/2024/09/17/governor-newsom-signs-bills-to-combat-deepfake-election-content/

There is a difference between free speech and impersonating another person through deep fakes. That falls under the category of fraud imo and there have always been laws against that.

I suppose it matters that the couch joke is generally referenced as a ridiculous, immaterial joke as opposed to deliberately spreading lies about an entire population of people to create hatred and fear.

I don't live in California anymore, so not tracking closely, but my understanding was that it applies to deepfakes but the "including deepfakes," gives a lot of leeway. Need to research when I get more time.
