There will likely be a bunch of complaints this week about "too much financialization of Farcaster" wrt channel passes. 1. It's still an experiment (why they aren't decentralized) 2. You're free to create a channel without a pass, i.e. free 3. We will have a way to gift passes to people for free

Longer term, assuming the experiment works, we plan to implement onchain as part of the protocol. The goals with channel passes: 1. Make it simple to acquire or gift 2. Make it expensive / annoying for bots and spam, esp. in channels with thousands of followers 3. Decentralizable

love it also to the financialization haters… when the world moves onchain nearly everything digital will be able to be owned, that ownership is β€œfinancial” in nature 🌱

I just love to see that you guys are building and experimenting. I know that that's probably not how you can scale to a 1B company, but hopefully you'll have a close to perfect system in place, once you hit that 1B valuation! ;)

I think your third comment is a very helpful addition as channel owners can just include all previous participants and start "charging" on a go-forward basis. Would this be an individualized process for gifting passes that may be too onerous on channel hosts though?

this is great. love a network starting on financialization early rather than 10 years down the line

It's fine to try what works and what not in order to get what works best. We need a place that, once well optimized, will not have the same problems the other platforms have. keep going!
