In most cases, I agree with this. General topic channels don't work well in the new model. They were built an era of channels as hashtags. There will be some exceptions, but will require a lot of work from the channel owner and moderators to make sure a large channel becomes and stays a community.

Disagree — larger topic channels should have a place. And channels should be that place where I can go and look at one topic in one place. /food is a great example — I don’t really want my home feed to be all pix of food. But I don’t mind that the food channel is exactly that and I can look there when I want. /screens and /music are others like that — when I’m looking for recommendations for those things it’s easy to go to those channels and see what people are posting. I’m not going to necessarily see those in my home feed especially from people I’m not following, but it might be very useful information, especially with the nook cast action.

It requires a solid owner / mod. We tried the large topic channels for a year. Doesn’t work without a lot of work.

Maybe true — yes need to remove the crazy spam but those channels are also the most popular and can be very useful one stop topic shops — especially when looking for recommendations on things.

Is there a way to have shared ownership of channels? The onus is too great on one owner to ensure a tight ship.
