Right, so this is the issue.

If I'm sophisticated enough, I can create a fake NFC tag and physical document for the photo.

There's no API to ping to see if John Doe with SSN XXX-XX-XXXX in USA is a real person.

The data that’s shown on the passport (image, name etc) is exposed over nfc and is signed with RSA.

If you go index the signing keys for each country you can verify the passport as if it were any other credential.

There’s an international system for revoked/stolen passports that you can’t reference easily.
