What candidates come to mind from each of the following buckets? 1. Funded by big tech and sustained 2. Not big tech funded, fizzled out

Retro reminds me of Path - beautiful app, no engagement hacking, just share โpassiveโ updates with your friends. But interesting thing is, most my friends were on Path but only few using Retroโฆ or maybe I need to find a new friend group ๐ฅน

It seems like most of these intimate social apps have all failed. Maybe the attention seeking and engagement baiting from all the big social networks has to do with it?

Whatโs the likelihood an intimate/ semi private social network app like Retro, BeReal, Path, etc actually catches on and sticks for good? It seems like most have been fads. If human status seeking isnโt fulfilled, and these also need to charge subscriptions, seems very difficult How could they succeed?
