I've been soaking them in distilled water, which I change daily. Apparently the water displaces some of the minerals in the embedded mud and patina. I brush them with a stiff toothbrush for a few minutes on each side once per day, occasionally using toothpicks when there are bits that look like they'll flake off. It can take months apparently? This is my first time exploring the process.
