besides EIP-6963, I'm not sure if there's a direct solution.

Unfortunately browser extension scripts aren’t guaranteed to run in a particular order, so they override window.ethereum at different times with varying degrees of success.

MetaMask is also so ubiquitous that other wallets set isMetaMask: true to boost discovery, adding to the confusion.

EIP-6963 fixes this.
