How are we making Farcaster easier to understand for new people 1. We're still considering rebranding Warpcast (back) to Farcaster. If we do that, will have an FIP. It will be controversial, but initial feedback from most developers actively building on the protocol is they are a supportive (with the goal of increasing users on the protocol). To be clear: this is not final /decided. 2. We rebranded frames to mini apps. This is a more literal name and in line with other popular ecosystems like Telegram. This is easier to understand for new developers. 3. We're gradually deprecating warps. We here this feedback a lot—what are warps and why do I need them—and moving most of the functionality of warps to USDC is much simpler (as well as being more composable). 4. We're working on cheaper / free sign ups. A lot of potential good new users churn at the $3 to sign up screen. Our goals are to 1) make it cheaper at the protocol for other apps and 2) free on Warpcast with a verification (we pay the protocol).

1. I think this is the right move. Nobody normal will ever understand warpcast (trust me I have tried to explain for hours lmao). My only suggestion is that as a gesture of independence you do a marketing campaign explicitly for the Farcaster Protocol on a separate, real domain like farcasterprotocol.com and fund some initiatives like small grants for protocol council members. Explicit things need to be done to make it feel like it’s a truly separate thing 2. Also good but i keep calling them frames in my conversations still lolol 3. Makes sense— what are we gonna do about channel renewals and when? I need to figure out what imma do with my hoard haha 4. I worry about client capture but ofc if warpcast/farcaster can’t solve it nobody else will be able to so sorta a moot point rn Thanks for the update 🫡

It’s a step towards solving the trust problem for new devs entering the Farcaster. I agree that y’all have a demonstrated history of doing mostly right by developers but If i joined Farcaster today bc I like the idea of decentralized/permissionless social and it was called Farcaster and the only way i can find anything dev doc/protocol related is through the main client app or Farcaster client site pages and then see that the majority of activity in the github discussions is from the main entity payroll devs I can’t help but assume that it’s a majority client focused protocol and that’s how it will stay. If I see actions, brand + site separation, and money go towards explicitly defining the protocol as separate it is much closer to passing my gut check of “is this really something separate from the VC funded behemoth that is a potential boot on my neck?” I think the ATP website accomplishes this in a way consistent to how devs think about approaching new ecosystems https://atproto.com/
