How are we making Farcaster easier to understand for new people 1. We're still considering rebranding Warpcast (back) to Farcaster. If we do that, will have an FIP. It will be controversial, but initial feedback from most developers actively building on the protocol is they are a supportive (with the goal of increasing users on the protocol). To be clear: this is not final /decided. 2. We rebranded frames to mini apps. This is a more literal name and in line with other popular ecosystems like Telegram. This is easier to understand for new developers. 3. We're gradually deprecating warps. We here this feedback a lot—what are warps and why do I need them—and moving most of the functionality of warps to USDC is much simpler (as well as being more composable). 4. We're working on cheaper / free sign ups. A lot of potential good new users churn at the $3 to sign up screen. Our goals are to 1) make it cheaper at the protocol for other apps and 2) free on Warpcast with a verification (we pay the protocol).

1. I think this is the right move. Nobody normal will ever understand warpcast (trust me I have tried to explain for hours lmao). My only suggestion is that as a gesture of independence you do a marketing campaign explicitly for the Farcaster Protocol on a separate, real domain like farcasterprotocol.com and fund some initiatives like small grants for protocol council members. Explicit things need to be done to make it feel like it’s a truly separate thing 2. Also good but i keep calling them frames in my conversations still lolol 3. Makes sense— what are we gonna do about channel renewals and when? I need to figure out what imma do with my hoard haha 4. I worry about client capture but ofc if warpcast/farcaster can’t solve it nobody else will be able to so sorta a moot point rn Thanks for the update 🫡

Few more questions 1. Will early users who paid $3+ to join Farcaster ever see any kind of benefit or recognition for coming in before free/cheaper sign-ups? 2. Will protocol-level reputation or history ever matter? 3. Are there plans to reward verified users in the future? 4. Will legacy accounts be seen as more “trustworthy” for certain MiniApp interactions? 5. How do we preserve early contributor energy as new waves come in?

Not really sure how I feel about 1. 2-4 are fine but I feel naming the client the same as the protocol will detract from the potential of other clients. FC already struggles with client diversity and the name change will only make that worse in regards to new users.

I've come around on #1. It's just too confusing to pitch Farcaster and then tell everyone to go download Warpcast. App -> Farcaster Protocol -> Cast or Farcaster Protocol Be overwhelmingly communicative that you want other people building clients / integrating the Protocol feeds into their apps.

1. Second this. 2. mApps 3. Probably best. Didn’t mind it but wasn’t champing at the bit to buy/use/hoard Warps 4. You could reverse this and pay new users funds that vest. Sign up with a wallet that preloads and locks 10 (?) USDC. Vesting is triggered by a. loading wallet with >5 USDC, b. baseline engagement for 90 days, c. “meaningful” engagement with OG users for 30 days. The middle school dance strategy, incentivize not being a wallflower. All the while, they can earn as usual tips, rewards, etc. and hook engagement behavior.

Love how the energy is flowing quickly, appreciate the update. Warplet will still remain warplet even when the name is changed, it has nostalgic value now. Hehe. I think rebranding to farcaster eventually will be a great move and makes it simple. Mini apps are already doing great. Warps yes no use case right now as we have a wallet and currencies.

Any plans to combat the eventual naming of them as Fapps or will you lean into the meme? Fartcaster and Faps etc…

I always thought you had a secret plan to eventually drop the "cast" and call the app "Warp" for the mass market.

I would like to have onchain payment for registration. 1 year ago I refused using warpcast becaused it asked for a credit card, while claiming to be crypto native. I would have been a 1 year+ user of warpcast if you had USDC payments back then for registration. That's why I am actively buying invites onchain and giving it to my friends

GM Farcaster is helping you make Farcaster easier to understand for new people. Have gotten a lot of feedback that new people use us as a resource for finding their way. Would love for you to share as a resource: https://youtube.com/@gmfarcaster?si=8i0H8p0_H-tzSflm
