The amount of FC related groups popping up on telegram is wild. Honestly kind of funny that it's taken so long. TG hasn't changed in ways relevant to these groups. WC has changed/improved a lot. The home feed focused experience is unsatisfactory. It's noisy, nudges disingenuous activity, and totally ignores community. Channels actually could compete with telegram, particularly for large communities. The problem is channel UX and notifications. TG is high signal and I can tinker notis where necessary. Everything in there is still of value. As it stands, no shot I'm turning on WC's notis. That would be a lot of effort, and as @zinger noted yesterday, the noti format is yikes. Make channels mini-apps for communities -prioritize channel UX/UI -subchannels/linked channels -first party mod -lots of other things Nft gated GC's are not going to compete with tg lol

We add more features to channels: no change to metrics. We add more features to DCs: metrics go up. Solve for X. People already find basic channels confusing. Adding more complexity to channels is unlikely to solve it.

Any plans to add gated channels? I know that all messages are available at the protocol level but maybe via encryption? (guessing this also might be on the radar once E2EE DCs are ready) Feels like a lot of the reason that users gravitate towards group chats nowadays (not just on FC, in social more broadly) is being able to share thoughts privately

The upgrades to dcs made a huge difference! TG is really flexible and can handle 1:1, small gc, large gc w/ subchannels, read-only of any size. WC has a privacy wall; people don't want to dc if the content is remotely sensitive. This is a very real limiting factor, particularly for 1:1 and more intimate groups. In-house mod features would be far more pleasant than 3rd party for management. Channel folders* would make wc life cleaner, quicker, and more enjoyable; I'd be more likely to actively browse channels. Favorites is not enough. How many channels does the average user follow? I follow way more than I can account for. The channel list should not be noise! More visual real estate for the channel list would also remove friction to actively visit channels and generally improve browsing. Maybe they convert well, but I'd bet suggested follows and channels (desktop) are effectively negative space for most users. *dc folders would be great too
