I would argue that the poll is slightly misleading

1. How could you have an opinion about the speech if you didn't watch it?

1. When it's absolutely necessary to learn what he says, I read objective summaries so I don't have to listen to him directly. I don't think he's a moral or decent person who has the best interests of America in mind, and much of what he says seems designed to inflame rather than ease tensions, so I try not to listen to him talk.

2. Plenty of people across the political spectrum are willing to hear him speak. I’m just not one of them.

Right, but you can't run a good survey of what did you think of the speech if you didn't actually listen to the speech

ok, I guess my original point is you're seeing democratic leadership -- which does their own private polling -- react to public perception of the speech -- which was more positive than the election results

Not really - but that doesn't make it any less flawed as a gauge of the extent to which Americans support what he said in that speech, which seems to be how the poll is being portrayed, which is the basic point I'm hitting at
