Verifications are opt-in, but through proof-of-work offer a non-biometric proxy version of proof-of-humanity. The more verifications (with publicly visible activity / history / reputation), the more likely you are to be human. Useful for developers building on the protocol, projects targeting airdrops and even for understanding that your engagement is not coming from "bots".

X, sure. Addy, fine. Phone number? Nah, that's too much. Especially considering that they could, in the future, be a part of the protocol and public. We have enough security concerns (in crypto) as it is.

Phone number wouldn’t be public.

V: "Phone numbers are private for now". that full sentence does not sound that re-assuring that tomorrow, or in a week, or in a year they are not private. I mean, whatever floats anyone's boat. If people want to verify, they can. I just see too much of a risk for me, personally.

Did you read his subsequent point? It would be a binary “phone verified”, not the actual phone number.

I did, but I am not ashamed to admit I do not know enough about code to know if that can be reverse engineered to get the actual number. again, just me being cautious here

Understand the caution! It would be something like this: “Phone number verified? True” Not: “Phone number: [the actual number”

OK, thank you for the clarification. Maybe feeling a bit easier about it now, but still. The risk of changes at a later stages (by you, v, or whoever else down the road), where the number is actually a part of the protocol, is a bit too much for me. Same as with warplet. I'm not keeping more than a bus fare on something for which I don't have keys. I may take risky bets in memecoins (my track record definitely proves it), but this would be just asking for it. No offense, just my 2 gwei. Thanks again 69 $DEGEN
